Horses To Follow
The following horses have caught the eye of our racereaders in recent weeks and could worth watching out for in the future.
FLAT
Dawn To Dance looks a certain maiden winner in the coming weeks after an eye-catching belated debut at Naas, May 12th, coming from well off the pace under a considerate ride to chase home the favourite, Alsalwa. Obviously a late maturer, the daughter of Selkirk is a half-sister to the smart sprinter Namid but gets the mile well and could well stay a little further. Maiden success looks assured and she could prove an interesting sort for some of the valuable fillies handicaps over the summer. Trained by J M Oxx.
Bangalore Gold looks a handicapper to follow. Twice successful last summer with David Myerscough the 4yo has joined David Marnane this year and made a very encouraging seasonal debut at Leopardstown, May 9th, coming from well off pace after not getting a clear run off the home turn when a good third to Across The Rhine. Having got this mile trip he has plenty of options and he looks well worth following off a mark of 91. Trained by D Marnane.
Galianna is still improving at the age of six and put up easily her best performance to-date with the step up to two miles at Clonmel, May 6th, taking control approaching the home turn and soon going clear. A 10lbs rise for her very easy ten lengths win looks fair enough and off a mark of 80 there still looks to be plenty to look forward to with the daughter of Galileo. Trained by P J Flynn.
Lolly For Dolly has really impressed in winning both her starts this Spring, especially last time when quickening away in the closing stages in the Athasi Stakes at the Curragh, May 3rd. A mile looks well within her compass and if supplemented for the Irish 1,000 Guineas there on May 23rd she could well emerge a major player. Trained by T Stack.
Head Space put up the most impressive two-year-old performance to-date this year when running away with a Naas maiden, April 17th. Travelling really smoothly to lead approaching the final furlong, the son on Invincible Spirit powered clear to beat the subsequent winner, Lightening Thief five lengths. That was over five furlongs, six won't be any problem and the Jim Bolger-trained colt well be next seen at Royal Ascot. Trained by J S Bolger.
Welcome Addition shaped with plenty of promise on her debut in a Leopardstown fillies maiden, March 28th, staying on late after encountering traffic problems when third behind Hazarafa and subsequent winner, Awe Inspiring. A daughter of Theatrical and a full-sister to the smart Winchester, she should win her maiden at ten furlongs and progress. Trained by D K Weld.
